As a business leader and entrepreneur with a background in digital marketing and e-commerce, how did you get involved in hosting and cloud solutions?
I started my digital company (Mobile Broadcast Company) in 1997 and it happened to be in the same building as LeaseWeb. I met the LeaseWeb staff and decided to use their hosting services for my growing business. Although LeaseWeb acted as a trusted advisor, I educated myself on hosting services and the scalability process for my growing business. I kept in touch with the LeaseWeb Founders and had a new found interest in Infrastructure as a Service. I ended up joining the LeaseWeb team in 2014 when I was asked to help push the US growth.
Talk about what makes LeaseWeb hosting different from other providers.
LeaseWeb is different from other providers in a couple of ways. One, we treat our customers like people, not a number. Although we are a global company, we operate like a startup. That allows us to have a close relationship with our customers. Two, we are trusted advisors to prospects and customers alike. We are willing to look at solutions outside our own in order to meet people’s needs in the most efficient and inexpensive way possible.
What are some of the latest technologies that LeaseWeb has adopted to make the service standout?
LeaseWeb has recently added a cybersecurity product that protects against web application attacks and provides DDoS mitigation. It is a sophisticated and comprehensive solution that works around the clock.
To cater to customer demand, we launched a pay-as-you-go option. This gives customers the elasticity their business needs to react to changing needs. You can start as low as hourly if needed.
Our customer portal has been updated with new features and allows customers to order pay as you go and allows them to choose private networking. Our portal is a self-service center that gives customers the power to control their infrastructure in one location.
What is the most underrated service that you would recommend all companies should take advantage of?
Our new startup program. We offer a $25,000/year credit to startups. This startup program offers new companies the ability to focus on their business rather than their infrastructure. LeaseWeb’s startup program includes financial and technical support so that you can build and scale your new business.
How does LeaseWeb cater to start-ups and emerging businesses?
We cater to startups and emerging businesses by being a trusted advisor in all things related to their hosting needs. We have customers that are startups and we understand their challenges. We take the time to learn our customers’ business and we identify the most cost-effective options to support them and provide customized solutions.
LeaseWeb knows situations can change, so we don’t lock businesses into our platform like some of our competitors do.
Aside from your company, what is your greatest success?
I would have to say, my ability to go without sleep for days…some say workaholic, I say making the most of each day…
What is one book you would recommend to everyone?
That would have to be 2 books…
2) Who Moved My Cheese? If you can’t adapt to change, you are doomed as an Entrepreneur, this book explains why change is uncomfortable and can make people uneasy, the book discusses change and how to approach it.
Who is someone we should be following on Twitter right now?
An inspirational business leader: Richard Branson
if you’re into tech and media: WIRED
What is one app that all FoundersCard Members should be using?
I would be unprofessional if I did not promote LinkedIn or SalesForce however, I assume most readers already have these apps. Expensify has made my life easier due to how much I travel. Other than that…the Starbucks app…I need coffee to function.
Give us your best plug/brag a little about as to what you’re working on now/next.
We are looking forward to our newly launched startup program. We’ve been working hard on the program the last 6 months, listening to start-ups and talking to customers. We wanted to develop a program that would accelerate and enable entrepreneurs’ rapid growth. Starting today a start-up will be eligible for $25,000 a year in hosting credits and use of our extensive network, in return LeaseWeb gets to be their trusted advisor and be part of their success.
