Bob Stuart is the Executive Vice President of Global Sales at The Hertz Corporation. After graduating from Cleveland State University, his career had previously consisted of sales and marketing roles at Halex, Philips, and most recently GE. Bob now oversees worldwide sales programs for business, leisure and travel industry sales, alongside partnership sales with airlines, hotels, and other car rental brands. He currently resides in Naples, Florida. Hertz supports FoundersCard Members with preferred pricing on rentals, and elite status opportunities.

Hertz prides itself on being the global leader in equipment and mobility solutions. What are the key ways Hertz is leading the industry?

We are everywhere. Hertz is the world’s largest general use car rental company. We have more than 10,300 corporate and licensee locations in approximately 150 countries. In the U.S. we have over 1,600 airport locations and another 1,300 airport locations internationally. We offer unique customer-oriented solutions including specialty cars offered through the Dream Car, Prestige, Adrenaline, and Green Traveler Collections; NeverLost; Mobile Wi-Fi; and Gold Choice. Additionally we lease vehicles through our Donlen subsidiary. Hertz is also one of the largest resellers of used cars and pioneered the Rent2Buy concept.

What are some of the initiatives Hertz has made to support small to mid-sized businesses?

We offer a Hertz Business Rewards Program that provides attractive rates and benefits to small and medium-size businesses. Importantly, it is an easy program to implement, very flexible and can expand with your business.

How does Hertz promote “Green Transportation”?

Hertz has one of the most fuel-efficient rental fleets in the industry, with more than 80 percent of vehicles averaging 28+ MPG. High fuel efficiency vehicles not only reduce the environmental impact of driving, but also save fuel costs.

As part of Hertz’s commitment to sustainability, we have invested in alternative fuel vehicles to ensure our customers have convenient and environmentally responsible rental options. In addition to a fleet of high MPG vehicles, which are designated with a green leaf icon on Hertz.com, our Green Traveler Collection makes finding the greenest vehicles simple through our car class dedicated to low-emissions and high MPG vehicles, including electric vehicles and hybrids.

The Hertz Green Business Travel program works with companies to establish a tailored sustainable travel plan. This program helps reduce the environmental and fuel cost impact of business travel through relevant environmental metrics and targets, such as overall carbon emissions, miles driven/MPG, green fleet usage and more. Through quarterly reporting and development of action plans to meet desired environmental rental goals, Hertz helps companies travel more efficiently, while still meeting business travel needs.

How does Hertz stay relevant in such a competitive market?

Innovation is the key. We have always prided ourselves in continually analyzing and reinventing the category. For business travelers, it is all about speed and convenience. Our custom-designed mobile apps, recently enhanced Gold Plus Rewards program and CarfirmationsTM are the latest way you can travel at the “Speed of Hertz.”

You have been with Hertz for about 8 years. What are some of the things you have assisted in implementing?

I am proud of integrating our sales and marketing efforts when we added Donlen Leasing to our family of brands. We continually win accolades for our car rental products. Now we can seamlessly offer the best leasing experience in the industry. This is particularly beneficial for smaller and medium-sized businesses that do not have a dedicated fleet manager.

What is your absolute favorite vehicle on the market right now?

Though they stopped making them in 2013, I am partial to the Lamborghini Gallardo Coupe. In yellow, of course.

Where is your favorite place to travel, either for work or pleasure?

Lake Chautauqua in upstate New York is my favorite spot. It offers a variety of relaxing diversions for my family and me.

Aside from your company/job what is your greatest success?

I am very family oriented. I come from a large family, and I am extremely proud of my four children and two grandsons. They bring me great joy and are a source of pride.

What is one book you would recommend to everyone?

I am a voracious reader. But if I have to select one book that continues to influence and guide me it would be the classic Art of War by Sun Tzu. Everyone can benefit from his timeless insight.

Who is someone we should be following on Twitter right now?

For a variety of reasons I find Elon Musk interesting.

Give us your best plug/brag a little about as to what you are working on now/next?

We are currently working on our brand architecture, which will clearly define the unique identities of our products. It is exciting and energizing to take a storied name like Hertz and make it even more relevant to an ever-changing environment, while also reinvigorating the long-established Dollar and Thrifty brands.

Hertz continues to proudly expand on the great legacy of this brand and company. In addition to our latest innovations such as the new NeverLost Companion app, Carfirmations, mobile apps and ExpressRent Kiosks, we’re piloting and testing several services at select locations, which truly differentiate the Hertz customer experience. As we approach our 100th anniversary, I am delighted to be part of the team that is keeping the Hertz experience second to none.
