Tucked away on the quiet Berners Street, just steps from Oxford Steet’s top shopping, is the Morgans Hotel Group’s Sanderson Hotel. The building was originally used to house the longest standing UK Sanderson furnishing fabric company and was completed in 1958, but today, houses Ian Shrager’s second London hotel that was masterfully designed by Phillippe Starck. His first was the sister property St. Martins Lane.
Carrying the Sanderson fabric company’s family name forward, the hotel is deep-rooted in the entrepreneurial spirit, which stretches from their Luna & Curious pop up shop, which supports up-and-coming artists and designers, to hosting FoundersCard’s entrepreneurs at last week’s event. On Tuesday, November 6, the Sanderson played host to over 50 of London’s leading entrepreneurs for a night of networking in their Courtyard Garden, which has been classified as a landmark “Heritage Garden.” Members were greeted with champagne flutes, but beer, wine and spirits were being sampled alongside canapés that highlighted savory small bites such as Mini Lamb Sliders, Sesame Lobster Toast, Crispy Pork Belly with a Chinese 5 Spice & Black Vinaigrette among many other Malaysian flavors from the Suka at Sanderson restaurant. Members converged on London from the United States, Germany, Spain, and other corners of Europe, so it was no surprise that the diverse group made their way from the Courtyard Garden to London’s swanky Long Bar to extended their discussions well into the evening. Those staying at the hotel received special access to the mysterious and elite Purple Bar.
For our Members that were unable to attend this fantastic evening of networking, we recommend making the Sanderson Hotel a part of your next London trip. The playfulness of the swinging chair that welcomes you into the lobby to the dreamlike curtains and cloud-soft beds in each guest room, you’re sure to find endless inspiration and comfort the next time you’re in London. FoundersCard Members receive preferred rates and amenities and are welcome to contact Member Services for more information on the property.
